The Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute (HHI) dedicates its research to the digitization of society and the economy with a focus on sensors, photonic networks and components, mobile communications, image and video technologies, and artificial intelligence (AI). HHI has many years of experience in the fields of computer vision/graphics, 3D video processing and immersive media. It deals with machine learning methods in a wide variety of application areas, explainable AI, and innovative recording, processing, visualization, and interaction technologies (e.g., AR/VR).

Our business focuses on helping customers leverage data within their workflows to achieve the highest possible efficiency, productivity and quality. The ultimate form of data utilization is when tasks and processes become autonomous. That is the goal of our Smart Solutions portfolio.

Hottgenroth Software AG, headquartered in Cologne, Germany, is leading the project as joint coordinator. The company looks back on years of experience in the development of technical, building physics and commercial software as a holistic solution for energy-efficient building planning. The basis is the common data model with HottCAD as the core: the digital building twin maps the current planning status and enables BIM-compliant, intelligent data exchange. In the future, the AI services developed in the course of the project will be addressed by our simulation software to digitally support energy-efficient renovation planning in building construction and residential construction.

NT.AG is a solid and imaginative, owner-managed company in the center of Erfurt, the capital of Thuringia. planen-bauen 4.0 GmbH has been coordinating and accelerating the digitization of the German construction industry since it was founded in 2015. It supports the federal government’s BIM pilot projects in the areas of building construction, roads, railways and waterways. In addition, the company is involved in numerous national and international projects for the standardization and implementation of the model-based way of working. planen-bauen 4.0 is also leading the establishment and operation of BIM Deutschland, the center for the digitization of construction. Furthermore, we are a partner in the Mittelstand 4.0 competence center for planning and construction and provide impetus in various digitization projects, including BIMSWARM and DigitalTWIN.

The Ruhr University Bochum is represented by the Chair of Computer Science in Civil Engineering and the Department of Transfer and Entrepreneurship and will develop application-oriented AI methods for the generation of geometric and semantic information for as-built models under integration of construction-specific expert knowledge in the project. Furthermore, approaches for building a GAIA-X-based ecosystem integrating existing BIM systems will be developed and target group-specific transfer labs for transferring the research results will be established.

As an owner-managed and independent engineering company with 20 office locations and over 900 employees, Schüßler-Plan is one of the leading engineering service providers in Germany. The application of digital models for the planning, control and management of construction projects is already part of everyday life in many areas of the company. The development of application-oriented AI processes for the derivation of as-built models offers far-reaching technological possibilities to make as-built recording more efficient and consistent in the future.
